Harbor Shores Reaches Key Milestones

The Harbor Shores Development celebrated two key milestones in the project today with a special media session held at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. The Golf Club at Harbor Shores announced the opening of the full 18 holes to the public. The Golf Club has been open since July 2009 for 10-hole preview play. Additionally, it was announced that the opening of the first two model homes in Hideaway, a neighborhood of cottage-style homes along the Paw Paw River among the privacy of the native woodlands.

Harbor Shores serves as a catalyst for ongoing community transformation. The non-profit resort project is designed to stimulate increased tax revenue, create jobs and generate new consumer spending.

Cornerstone Alliance, a non-profit investor driven economic development organization, serving the Benton Harbor/St. Joseph community, is one of the partners in the development. Cornerstone Alliance President Wendy Dant Chesser said, "We are very pleased to see the Harbor Shores development continuing to progress each day despite obstacles like the national recession. Today, we are celebrating two milestones as the full golf course opens and new residential units are complete."

"This is great news for the entire community as new residential units are constructed it creates new tax base. Additionally, with the opening of the full course, the surrounding homes ultimately will experience an increase in their value due to being located in close proximity to such an amenity," added Chesser.

Harbor Shores will celebrate their official grand opening of the Golf Club later in the summer on August 10 with the Harbor Shores Champions for Change Golf Challenge featuring course designer, Jack Nicklaus along with friends Johnny Miller, Arnold Palmer, and Tom Watson. The Golf Club at Harbor Shores was recently named home of the 73rd and 75th Senior PGA Championships in 2012 and 2014.

It aids in our efforts to attract new businesses, creates opportunities of our existing local businesses both small and large, and will bring in significant new dollars into the community estimated to be roughly over $20 million," added Vaughn.
