For a relatively small region, Michigan's Great Southwest has a distinct network of city, township, and village governmental units. Berrien County is divided into 13 districts, and within the county are 39 municipalities.
Each city has a manager form of government, with a mayor and varying numbers of city council members elected at-large, serving three-year, staggered terms.
Voting
Michigan residents are allowed to vote at age 18 or older. An individual must register at least 30 days prior to an election and be a resident of the state. Voter registration is valid for two years.
